Commission Bidding

If you would like to bid on an auction item the best way is to buy a ticket to Art 4 Macmillan at Rockbeare Manor on 4th October 2017.  If you can’t be there in person you could still be in with a chance of getting your favourite piece by leaving a commission bid.  Commission bids will only be accepted from potential buyers with a UK mainland address.  Here’s how it works:

Your bid should indicate the maximum amount you are prepared to pay for the lot. If your bid is successful you will pay up to that amount.  The auction will start at a lower amount so you may secure your lot for a lower amount depending on the reserve (if any) and competing bids.  The starting bid and bidding increment will be set by the auctioneer.  For example:

Starting bid: £400 Bidding increment: £25 Max. bid at the auction: £550

If your commission bid was for £500 you would not be the proud new owner, having been outbid. If your commission bid was £600 you would secure the artwork for £575.

If two potential buyers submit identical bids the winning bidder will be chosen at the auctioneer’s discretion. This may not by reference to the time the bid was received.

Please be aware that successful commission bidders will be required to organise for artworks to be transported at their own cost as soon as possible after the event. We cannot undertake delivery other than within a 15 mile radius of Exeter, Devon.  Whilst we will do our utmost to safeguard your purchase, no responsibility can be taken for auction items in transit, either from Rockbeare Manor to storage or from storage to your address.

Artworks will not be released for delivery or collection until the auction hammer price and all transportation costs have been paid in full. Cheques will need to be cleared before artworks are released.  Payment can also be made by bank transfer, or debit/credit card (through our facility with Paypal).

We will contact you after your commission bid has been received to make sure that you are happy with these terms and conditions and to ensure that all commission bids placed are valid. All bidders are required to register with us before placing their bids so we may request more personal information during that contact.  Your personal information will not be used for any other purpose without your consent.
